History
Huddle House is a place with a fascinating background. Since its beginning, it has enjoyed continuous expansion. The company was established around 1964, in the year 1964 by John Sparks. Sparks was a businessman who was previously the owner of other food establishments. His passion for high-quality meals and excellent service prompted him. These values have helped make the brand the success it is in the present.
Sparks noticed a few youngsters huddled together after playing a Friday night football game. They were laughing and talking with one another. It was a casual conversation. He believed that Huddle House was the perfect name. It’s an opportunity for people to get quality meals and have time to get together. This is the way that Sparks came to the idea of the name for his restaurant.
The first restaurant was opened in 1964 and was located in Decatur. The restaurant had just 34 employees when it first began its business. It grew rapidly through franchising in the year 1966. John Sparks died in 1978. Pauline Sparks took over the direction of the business. She led the franchise to heights of success. In 1994 she decided to sell the massive business.
The company has been through several ownership changes. However, the drive to provide good food and service in a relaxed setting has been a constant policy. Allied Capital acquired ownership of the business in 2006. Allied Capital was later acquired by Ares Capital in 2009. The deal resulted in Ares Capital being the new owners of the company. Sentinel Capital Partners are the current owners of the company.
