Abuelo’s history
James Young, a Taiwanese native, arrived in America in 1988. U.S. in 1988. He launched his very first Asian restaurant in the year 1975. In the next few years, he began expanding his operation across Texas.
Young realized the two Amarillo establishments weren’t financially viable and teamed up with Abuelo, the founders Dirk Rambo and Chuck Anderson, to convert one to Mexican food.
In 1989 the original Abuelo’s restaurant began operations in Amarillo (Texas). They wanted to offer traditional Mexican dishes in a casual environment surrounded by Mexican artwork and architecture.
There are at present; there are currently 38 Abuelo locations. Luis Sanchez, Chef of Abuelo’s, is a part of the team that helped design the menu. He has shared his family’s recipes with us and ensures that all meals are freshly cooked.
